Biofinity vs Ultra
Medically reviewed by Tina Patel on 24 January 2023
Biofinity Energys and Bausch & Lomb Ultra are both monthly silicone hydrogel contact lenses designed for daily wear. CooperVision’s Energys offers an upgrade to Biofinity contact lenses and features a 48% water content. Bausch & Lomb Ultra, however, features a 46% water content and a wetting agent. Both these contact lenses feature a high oxygen permeability making them some of the most breathable lenses in the industry. Biofinity does not feature a wetting agent, making it a compatible choice for sensitive eyes; however, it does feature Aquaform technology which retains eye moisture for optimal comfort. These lenses can be worn for up to 7 days as extended wear contact lenses, if approved by your optician, whereas Ultra must be removed at the end of each day.

Are Bausch & Lomb Ultra contacts good?
Bausch & Lomb Ultra is a great contact lens choice, as is Biofinity Energys. They both provide optimal comfort at an affordable price. When deciding which is better, this comes down to personal preference and which is best suited to your eyes and lifestyle.
Biofinity Energys have the added benefit of featuring Digital Zone Optics, a lens design which helps to reduce the feeling of tired eyes. This makes them ideal for office workers. It also utilises Aquaform Technology which helps retain water so that the lens doesn’t dry out easily. For this reason, it can be worn as a continuous wear lens, whereas Bausch & Lomb Ultra can’t and has to be taken out sooner.
Bausch & Lomb Ultra has a handling tint which makes them an excellent choice for those who have problems with inserting and removing their lenses. Like Biofinity Energys, it is a silicone hydrogel lens with high oxygen permeability, allowing for long wear. It is slightly thinner than Biofinity Energys but only just. Both these lenses have been designed for the digital age with Ultra featuring a lens design which specifically reduces halos and glare in low light conditions.
