What are the similarities between Opti Free Puremoist and Biotrue?
Both of these multi-purpose solutions can be used to clean, disinfect, rehydrate and store your contact lenses. These dual-purpose contact lens solutions remove the need for multiple products for a more cost-effective option. Both contact lens solutions use a wetting agent to keep the lens and eye moisturised for consistent comfort throughout wear.
The ingredients of both products are similar with some variations. Both solutions are a gentle formula suitable for sensitive eyes. These solutions are designed to be used with a soft contact lens, including silicone hydrogel contact lenses that are monthly disposable or two weekly.
Both contact lens solutions come in larger twin pack sizes, for those that are comfortable with their solution and want to stock up as well as save. Biotrue Multi-Purpose Solution Twin Pack and Opti-Free Puremoist Twin Pack are both available at Feel Good Contacts.
What is the difference between Opti-Free Puremoist and Biotrue?
Biotrue utilises hyaluronan as its wetting agent to increase/stabilise the tear film, much in the same way that some eye drops for dry eyes do. Whilst Opti-Free Puremoist uses HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix which adds moisture and comfort to the lens. It’s worth noting that HydraGlyde is the same wetting agent in Air optix, so this solution is more suited to that lens material. The disinfecting agents within these solutions are also different, although both are effective whilst being gentle on the eyes. This is something to consider when choosing between these products.
Which one is better, Opti-Free Puremoist or Biotrue?
These multipurpose solutions are similar in delivery and function. Both options are excellent at conditioning, disinfecting and storing your contact lenses, all in one handy product. Although the solutions are similar they have different disinfecting ingredients as well as wetting agents, which can affect how the deposits are removed as well as the comfort of you lenses/how long you can wear the lenses for.
These solutions are both cost effective additions to your contact lens care routine. If you’re unsure which solution you should choose, you should consult your optometrist and they will help you choose the solution most suited to you and your needs.
