What is Lacreon Technology?
Medically reviewed by Tina Patel on 24 January 2023
Lacreon technology was developed by Johnson & Johnson vision care. This technology is embedded with a water-holding agent in a lens material known as etafilcon A. This material provides a cushion of moisture for long-lasting comfort that doesn't blink away throughout the day.
Lacreon technology ensures that moisture is permanently kept in the lens to keep the eyes fresh. It also provides the lens with a smooth texture to allow the eyelid to glide over the lens effortlessly.
You'll find Lacreon technology embedded throughout the majority of Acuvue contact lenses by Johnson & Johnson.
Some lens manufacturers apply a wetting agent to their contact lenses. Unlike Lacreon technology, this can get blinked away easily and therefore doesn’t last as long. The wetting agent in Lacreon won't blink away, enabling your lenses to provide moisture for longer. It also allows your eyelids to glide over the lens comfortably all day, even when exposed to dust and pollen.
What material is Acuvue Moist?
Acuvue Moist and most other Acuvue brand contact lenses with hydrogel technology provide you with optimal comfort all day.
Hydrogel is a gel-like plastic material that holds water. The water carries oxygen to your eyes so that they are regularly refreshed and hydrated.
Which is better, Acuvue Oasys or moist?
Acuvue Oasys are a great contact lens choice for those who suffer from dry eyes. This lens utilises Hydraclear Plus technology to keep the lenses smooth, hydrated and comfortable over the course of the day.
Acuvue Oasys are extended wear contact lenses. This means that if approved by your optician, they can be worn continuously for a week without having to take them out, saving you the hassle of removing them before bed.
Acuvue Moist contact lenses are daily disposable contact lenses. Some people favour these lenses over Acuvue Vita and Acuvue Oasys as they feature built-in Lacreon technology to lock moisture in and irritation out. These lenses provide a long-lasting cushion of moisture and have a water content of 58% for added hydration and comfort. Acuvue Oasys requires a 38% water content as it is a silicone hydrogel lens, boasting a highly wettable design.
In addition to featuring Lacreon technology, Acuvue Moist contact lenses are also more affordable than Acuvue Oasys. You can get 1 Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism as well as 1-Day Acuvue Moist contact lenses as daily disposables.
Both lenses feature UV blocking technology to protect the eyes from harmful UV radiation. UV protection is an important feature to have in contact lenses as it can prevent you from developing eye conditions such as cataracts.
In terms of risk from infection, use of daily disposable contact lenses means foreign body particles are less likely to be trapped for extended periods of time, and therefore less likely to cause infection.
You can also try Acuvue 1 Day with HydraLuxe, best for those with active lifestyle. These lenses offer outstanding moisture and hydration. The HydraLuxe technology is a tear inspired design that provides hydration, stabilises tear film and hence comfort your eyes throughout the day by imitating tears-like properties. Acuvue 1 day will also protect your eyes by blocking 90% UVA and 99% UVB rays.
