O’Neill was built after Jack O’Neill spent his time body surfing in Ocean Beach. He wanted to find a way surfers could stay in the water longer during colder spells. This resulted in the pioneering wetsuit designed in 1952 and made from neoprene rubber. He opened a surf shop in a garage off the Great Highway, located alongside San Francisco’s coastline and started selling to local surfers. Soon O’Neill expanded and become known world-wide with sunglasses added to its mix of innovative and functional products. From the recognisable aviator to sporty wraps in ocean hues with the brand’s logo at the temples, O’Neill sunglasses are steeped in its surfing heritage.
